burnhill reviewed Bangkok Dangerous (2008)

Had the potential

I had been waiting for this since last spring and I sure did have high expectations for the movie, Cage and plot. Unfortunately I had set my bar way too high and was slightly disappointed for what I saw although the package was quite entertaining and had the potential.

First of all I must say that it doesn't take much to gain my attention. Cage and sniper in this particular case did the job. The ...

burnhill reviewed Vantage Point (2008)

Boomtown?

Reminded me a lot of the tv serie Boomtown. Like we've read from the other reviews I also think that the storytelling was fascinating. Good acting and interesting plot with a pinch of action makes Vantage Point definitely worth of watching.

burnhill reviewed The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)

Jet Li & Jackie Chan saves

Jet Li and Jackie Chan in the same movie. Watcher's are given exactly what they want. Very nice martial artistic scenes from both of them and yes, they are also fighting each other. At the beginning of the movie the scenery reminded me awfully a lot of Fearless which I think is one of the best movies I've seen so far. Unfortunately this isn't as good as Fearless, not even close ...

burnhill reviewed Con Air (1997)

Great Cast!

After I saw Con Air on pillar's timeline I was really eager to watch it myself once again. Filmgator is really starting to effect me :)

I've seen Con Air countless of times and it's always good. At that time Nicolas Cage did great movies like this one, The Rock, Face Off and became one of my favorite actors. Nowadays the quality of Cage's movies has decreased, but he's still an ...

burnhill reviewed Iron Man (2008)

Expected worse

I remember kombinaat saying that he was eager to see this one. I also remember saying that I can't believe why someone would want to watch Iron man, it can't be good - and I was right. It wasn't good, but it wasn't bad either - mediocre I would say.

Iron man's yet another superhero movie which slighty differs from the others though and that something different saves this one if Iron man ...

burnhill reviewed Doomsday (2008)

Old idea, nothing new, poor implementation

Once again I picked a year and checked, what do we have? So I found Doomsday and at the time I think that imdb rating was somewhere around 7. I also respect Vertex's ratings so I thought that this is just some mediocre film. Oh boy was I wrong...

We've seen the setting over a million times already. What new does Doomsday bring to us - Nothing. Oh well, maybe a freaking eye which is ...

burnhill reviewed Naruto Shippuden the Movie (2007)

Not again another useless filler...

Naruto was something else when it was released back in 1999. It was good! Now (when I'm writing this) after 401 chapters of manga, 220 episodes of Naruto, 60 episodes of Naruto Shippuuden and 4 Naruto movies it isn't so good anymore. The manga's still great! gotta hand it to you, but anime... Let's get into that ...

burnhill reviewed X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

Nice Effects!

If you've seen X-Men and X-Men 2, X-Men: The Last Stand is a-must-see. Not only because it's the best X-Men movie, but it finishes the trilogy very well.

The movie continues where the X-Men 2 ended. So I'm not going to say anything concerning the storyline. It's still the same mutant stuff ...

burnhill reviewed Equilibrium (2002)

Bale saves the day or does he?

I've liked Christian Bale since I saw Equilibrium back in 2002. This was his debut for me and not bad one at all. Not even now 6 years later although it really looked a bit old.

The movie takes place in the future where's no war, crime, murder, anger etc. People are living in Utopia - perfect society. At least it might seem so, because there's neither happiness, love, sorrow... nothing. No emotions at ...

burnhill reviewed In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007)

Waste of time

I had a small "What the?" moment when I saw In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. How come I had never even heard of this one before? There's a very good reason for that: This movie sucks!

The storyline has a very basic initialization which we all have seen far too many times before. A farmer (Jason Statham) loses his son when Krugs, a race of animal-warriors, attacks a small ...

burnhill reviewed Shoot 'Em Up (2007)

Entertaining!

I checked few days ago what action movies were made in 2007. So I found Shoot 'Em Up with bunch of other movies that waits for watching. I didn't have any expectations after watching In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale which sucked by the way. I just wanted to get over with this. Fortunately Shoot 'Em Up wasn't waste of time. Actually it was quite entertaining ...

burnhill reviewed The Warrior (2001)

Perfect

After I read Vertex's review of The Restless I was eager to see Musa. I knew that it can't be bad 'cos he had mentioned it and compared The Restless to Musa. Also knowing him somehow I started to watch this on a comfortable position and ice cold pepsi on my hand. I knew that this is going to be the highlight of the day - and it was ...

burnhill reviewed Curse of the Golden Flower (2006)

Boring

This one caught my attention when I read the description from the dvd's back cover. It said "The best kung-fu choreography seen so far" so I expected atleast something like seen in Fearless.

Curse of the Golden Flower tells a story of a chinese Royal family. There are complications between the family members and the plot is based on those. Whole idea just doesn't work. The movie is really boring and the few ...

burnhill reviewed Night Watch (2004)

Best part of the movie: ending theme!

I remember clearly the day when me and my friend Teemu walked to Plevna. We saw a trailer which looked quite good - yes, the trailer looked quite good. so we bought tickets and went to watch Night Watch.

First of all, the trailer gave a very different view of the movie. I thought that Night Watch was cool action movie with some fantasy - Oh boy was I wrong. The fact that Night Watch ...

burnhill reviewed War (2007)

Revenge is everything!

When I see Jet Li's name on a cover of a movie I instantly think of cool martial artistic scenes. I might be a little Li fan on some level :) Unfortunately War didn't bring Jet Li's potential out.

War is really basic action movie which doesn't really seperate it from other action movies on any aspect. Storyline is seen many times before and is really predictable, but if you're tired and ready to ...

burnhill reviewed We Are Marshall (2006)

Would watch again anytime!

It's been a while since I've watched two movies in a row. After watching War I was kinda in a mood for more action. I'm very glad that I switched genre and end up watching We Are Marshall.

The movie is based on a true story and We Are Marshall delivers it very well to the watcher. Story goes forward fluently and is enjoyable to watch. Like ali already mentioned, the ...

burnhill reviewed Fearless (2006)

Jet Li's outstanding performance!

Qing-dynasty has finally come to an end and foreign dominions rules China's biggest cities. Shanghai's chamber of commerce arranges a competition where four foreign fighters should fight against the champion of China. One man responses to the challenge and his destiny inspires the posterities for decades. His name is Huo Yuanjia...

I had a period back in the days when me and my friend used to rent only Jet Li's movies. I think his martial ...

burnhill reviewed Casshern (2004)

What would you do, if you were given a second chance?

Four years ago I fell asleep while watching this and now Casshern totally blew my mind. Some might know that I'm into everything related to Japan and movies aren't exception. I just love the language - could listen to it all day long!

Anyway... Casshern takes place in a world with an alternate history, a great war has torn the world a part leaving the Earth diseased and polluted from nuclear fallouts and factory ...

burnhill reviewed Rambo (2008)

Comeback!

Rambo is one of those must-see movies like Rocky Balboa. Rambo movies from the '80 are classic so even if you haven't seen the first ones and aren't interested even a bit you just have to see this one.

John Rambo (Stallone) is living a peaceful life in Thailand trying to forget his past. Group of Christian aid workers requests Rambo to take them to war-Torn Burma. Rambo takes them to their destination ...

burnhill reviewed The Wicker Man (2006)

Nicolas caught in a Cage

Nicolas Cage is one of those magnificent actors who makes a movie watchable even when it's not. The Wicker Man is one of those movies. I happened to rent this one just because I found out that Cage was in it.

Cage's character is a sheriff who starts to investigate a very odd disappearance of a young girl from a small island. When he gets further on his investigation he discovers that there's a ...

burnhill reviewed I Am Legend (2007)

Will Smith doing a monologue

Ever since I saw the first trailer of I Am Legend it was a must see movie. The story and the motto: "The last man on Earth is not alone" interested me from the very beginning so I had high hopes for this movie. The movie starts with a broadcast that gives a good base for the movie which takes place few years later. The storyline goes forward fluently and doesn't leave things for the watcher to guess. I expected more and different kind of movie and was a bit disappointed ...

burnhill reviewed The Nanny Diaries (2007)

This was supposed to be a comedy?

I found myself watching this in a theater and after the movie was over I asked myself "why?". The basic idea of The Nanny Diaries is that a young women (Johansson) graduates from high school and has a tough time deciding which College she should be going in. So she decides to quit school for a year and become a nanny.. ...
