Dragonleo reviewed Avatar (2009)

Avatar

The Avatar-hype has been living a life of its own ever since the movie first hit the theaters - and for a good reason.
The movie is visually stunning. The world of Pandora featured breathtaking views and beautiful scenery, and blend of CGI with real life was just about seamless. The story, which has been the major source of criticism, wasn't on par with the visuals, but the world inhabited by the Na'vi was in all ways a fascinating and a beautiful creation - worthy of much praise. If ...

Simple Math For The Genius Minds

Gambling movies tend to be a little on the weak side. 21, on the other hand, had all the makings of a very good movie; promising actors, quite a nice plot, and a decent budget too!

Ben Campbell, a bright mind from MIT, wants to be a doctor. Not just any doctor though, he wants to study in the Harvard Medical School, and that makes things a bit more difficult. Ben comes from a normal ...

The Panic Room

Even though the term "panic room" is usually used in a different context with a different meaning, this room kept me on the edge of my seat.

Mike Enslin is a writer, who concentrates on paranormal phenomena on different locations. He seeks out the places that are claimed to be haunted and clears out the mystery in those places, and prior to a strange card arriving from New York, he admits never having even seen ...

Dragonleo reviewed Iron Man (2008)

A Solid Superhero Story

As music, if Spider Man was a mixture between a graceful kind of classical and the average pop, Ghost rider something like black metal, Iron Man is definitely some solid Rock, recorded in a state-of-the-art, high-tech recording studio. Nice.

Tony Stark, the head of a big weapons manuafacturing company, is not just good with women, but also a genius when it comes to engineering. He's contributed greatly to creating different kinds of high-tech weapons and ...

Indy Takes It Over The Top

-WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS CONCERNING THE PLOT, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE AND PLAN TO WATCH IT, SAVE THE READING OF THIS REVIEW FOR LATER-

Upon hearing that the new Indiana Jones movie was finally being released, seeing the new trailers and everything a while back, I was exhilarated. Indiana Jones, the definition of action/adventure movies, was finally going to be brought back to life with modern technology. I had high expectations.
Then ...

Dragonleo reviewed Enchanted (2007)

A Fairytale Come True

Disney, being famous for its mythical stories and fabled tales, faced quite a challenge with adapting two different environments and styles into a single plot. So how'd they do? You're about to find out.

Enchanted tells a fairytale story in Andalasia, about Giselle, a beautiful maid looking for her true love; and prince Edward, who seeks a princess to share his happily-ever-after with. The two of these find each other, and fall in love, but ...

Dragonleo reviewed P.S. I Love You (2007)

One Of The Better Romantic Ones

A friend had already praised this film for being a very good one, so when I sat down at the theatre, I had some expectations for P.S. I Love You. Were they met? Read on to find out.

Holly is married to Gerry, a handsome irish lad, and they live in a small apartment filled with dreams. Both of them have plans for the future, and even though there might be an occasional moment of ...

Dragonleo reviewed Hitman (2007)

Jason Bourne In a Suit

Watching Hitman was like watching a bloody mixture between the latest Bond (Casino Royale, that is) and a Bourne-movie.

Agent 47 is an elite hitman, trained from his childhood solely for this purpose. He possesses almost inhuman skills, when it comes to his job, and is legendary with his emotional, deadly efficiency. He works for The Organization - a mysterious agency, and receives orders to assassinate the president of Russia. He accepts the assignment, but ...

Dragonleo reviewed Hitch (2005)

Talk About a Date Doctor...

Hitch is one of my favorite movies. I've seen it 3 or 4 times at the moment, and I think it is still getting better as time goes by. Kinda like good wine, I suppose...?

Alex "Hitch" Hitchens is the guy to talk to when you want a word of advice with the ladies. Having well earned his title as "the date doctor", he knows exactly what to do, what to say, and how to ...

Dragonleo reviewed Fearless (2006)

The Wonderful Beauty In Simplicity

As people usually end their reviews of films they liked with "this movie is worth watching", "I recommend this movie" or "everybody should see this movie", I'm not going to spare it to the end: Fearless is an excellent film. Go watch it. Now.

Huo Yuanjia, as a child, watches his father, a great martial artist, willingly lose a match to a rival family's member. Little Huo Yuanjia, lacking the maturity sees this as a ...

Dragonleo reviewed The Golden Compass (2007)

Your Average Lord Of The Rings-Fantasy...

Staged on different surroundings, LOTR was exactly what this movie reminded me of. No wonder, seeing that New Line Cinema was behind both of the movies. It's not really a bad thing - in a way. Read on to learn why.

Lyra Belacqua is an ordinary girl with ordinary friends, with ordinary pets; pets that can shapeshift between different animals. Daemons, as they're called in Lyra's world, which is a little different from the one ...

Dragonleo reviewed Bruce Almighty (2003)

Definitely One Of the Better Jim Carrey Films

Now don't get me wrong - even though this film is full of light-hearted - even plain dumb - humour, I do like serious movies too.

Bruce Nolan, a local news reporter in Buffalo, is fed up with his mediocre life. And when a promotion he's eagerly expected is passed on to someone else, it drives Bruce over the edge, and he blatantly starts blaming God for all the failures in his life. Lucky for ...

Dragonleo reviewed Shanghai Noon (2000)

A Jackie Western...?

Jackie Chan is Awesome. With a capital A. That being said, and applying to most of the numerous movies he's starred in, Shanghai Noon is a movie that I could've seen flopping without Jackie Chan.

Chon Wang, one of the less respected warriors in the Imperial Guard, witnesses the kidnapping of Princess Pei Pei, and feels a responsibility to journey wherever she was taken to bring her back. Albeit the fact that the emperor doesn't ...

Dragonleo reviewed Horton Hears a Who! (2008)

Great Fun!

Great fun can sometimes come in the most minuscule form - this movie definitely proves it.

Horton the elephant lives in the Jungle of Nool, leading a life full of fun and relaxedness. He enjoys every day with the local residents - his friends, and the rest of the bunch. However, a day like any other day turns out to be a little different, as Horton bumps into a speck of dust; not just any ...

Dragonleo reviewed Hairspray (2007)

Shine, Glitter 'n Sparkle

... Now that's a way to describe Hairspray in a nutshell. As I started watching, I was pretty ready to see a 60's version of High School Musical - I'm not really sure if I did. But I'll have to say, it was pretty fun!

Tracy Turnblad loves dancing. She lives in Baltimore, and is crazy over a local TV show, the "Corny Collins show" and the heart-melting Link Larkin, who stars in the show ...

Dragonleo reviewed Bewitched (2005)

A Little Magic Here And There...

I sat down in front of the TV tonight, and Bewitched was just about to start, so I decided to stick with it - which in hindsight was the right thing to do!

Isabel has moved out to California - the place to be. She's there to start a new life, get new experiences and leave behind her old one. It's all so normal, nothing out of the ordinary - except for the fact that ...

Dragonleo reviewed Minority Report (2002)

On The Run - And Quite a Good One Too

Aside from the Mission Impossible trilogy, I'd have to say that this is the Tom Cruise movie to watch. It was on TV tonight, and I just couldn't miss it - even after having seen it more than twice before.

Minority Report tells a story from the future, about a revolutionary system to enhance law enforcement. Pre-crime, the system, predicts crimes before they happen by using pre-cogs - three special humans who have the ability ...

Dragonleo reviewed Alien Resurrection (1997)

The Aliens' Best

This was an interesting one. I've never actually seen the prequels as whole movies, or at least I have no clear memory of watching them - maybe just parts. Still, I'm somewhat familiar with the events that took place in them, but even so, Alien: Resurrection was a bit confusing in the beginning. It all became clearer during the movie, so not a major flaw for viewers who might not be familiar with the content of the previous Alien installments.

Dragonleo reviewed The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007)

Light vs Dark? Again? Seriously?

I remember seeing the trailer for The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising, and it looked pretty promising. I've always gone for the flashy special effects and impressive visuals - and that's what the trailer had. The movie, on the other hand...

Will Stanton, a young boy who turns 14 learns of a great battle between light and dark that so far has been dominated by light, but is now threatened by darkness' growing strength; and ...

Dragonleo reviewed Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007)

A Bland, Yet Visually Decent Sequel

Now, first of all, to make it clear, even though visually decent, I found the movie so utterly tasteless due to the senseless slaughter, that I never finished the whole thing. That being said, my impressions on what I saw.
Starting off exactly where the prequel left off, a deadly alien-predator hybrid crashes into the hills near a town in Colorado and along with a couple of facehuggers, is released to terrorize the town. Along comes a Predator to hunt down the Aliens, and the town turns into a deadly battleground for ...

Dragonleo reviewed Juno (2007)

Teenage Problems In a Teenage World

As the 16-year-old Juno MacGuff finds out about an unwanted pregnancy, she suddenly has some big choices waiting to be made. In addition to the pregnancy in general, this is basically what "Juno" revolves around.
Personally, I've never found these movies depicting a somewhat miserable suburban life - especially ones of teenagers - and its problems very entertaining; on the contrary, mostly strenuous and depressing. With all of the misery out there, why would you want to go and devote a couple of hours to watching it on a big screen? Just ...
