Having not read any of Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books, I didn't know what to expect and in all honesty given some of the reviews of the film I wasn't expecting much at all. Tom Cruise generally picks solid projects and I'm a sucker for a straight forward action film which this completely was. Fight sequence: check. Car chase: check. Last minute revelation: check. It's all here and in pretty decent shape. Cruise wears the badass hat pretty well and since the majority of the other performers are for the most part no names (with the exception of a wasted Richard Jenkins and the always great Robert Duvall) he's pretty much the star of the show. Sure, the dialouge is pretty rote action/adventure pablum but the story is engaging and does keep you guessing to a point. In short: it's a lot of fun and pretty low key which works for this particular project. Love the old school Michael Kamen-esque score by Joe Kraemer. Worth seeing on the big screen for sure but a wait for DVD will probably do the film no harm.
