In this film, based on a true story, Bernie (Jack Black) shows up in a small Texas town. He takes a job as an assistant funeral director and eventually befriends the entire community. His relationship with an old widowed battle axe (Shirley McClain) seems to loosen up her defenses and soon they become inseparable.
Bernie was a solid under the radar film. Jack Black was great as Bernie Tiede. Matthew McConaughey and Shirley McClain also turn in nice supporting roles. It was also nice to see the real residents of Carthage, TX be interviewed for their thoughts and comments during the movie.
