Watchable doomsday movie; the individual story lines are not quite as compelling as Deep Impact.

I was not expecting very much besides excellent special effects since that's what Ronald Emmerich does best. Why anyone would still be giving him 200 mil for a movie is beyond me but I guess it's still somewhat appealing.
The movie itself is what the trailer prescribes, yucky sentimental mush where the end of the world comes with enormous waves and earthquakes and yes, the Americans end up being heroes in their own mind at least. Forgetting grieving for the millions of people who die in the first hour of the movie, everything seems dandy for the survivors in their own little arc.
Even the special effects didn't really impress me as much as I expected. I fell asleep during the first hour for a bit but other than that it was alright. Not good but alright for what the trailer said. I wish they'd shown more of the destruction of other places besides america like in the trailer as Eiffel tower was left out completely etc.
Lastly loved the Louvre and London Scenes with Eiffel tower in the background of the Louvre and Big Ben in the background of the hotel... I guess it was necessary to show that so that the americans knew that the scenes were in fact in EUROPE lol. Having been in both places I just thought it was funny.
