Review from the comment
Pale Rider is one of the newer classics of the western genre, although it doesn’t stray far from an old formula. Clint Eastwood stars as a preacher with a mysterious past who comes to the aid of a miner town. The miners are being bullied by a rival magnate who sends his goons in to rough them up in an effort to get them to leave the area. The overall idea and plot arc are nothing new but the delivery is immaculate . There is no explanation or history ever given for Eastwood’s character, who may or may not be a ghost. This adds to a subtle supernatural feel to the film which is prevalent throughout. Pale Rider was the highest grossing western in the 1980’s, and there is a reason why. There is good stuff here, even 25+ years later.
