This is one of the first times I've viewed this on DVD since I purchased the trilogy box set a few years back. The reason why I bring this up is because I happened to glance down at the counter and was astounded that the Map Room was only at the 50 minute mark. I think that's ridiculously fast. That's the Peruvian jungle, throw me the idol I'll throw you the whip, the bolder, outswimming poison darts, the classroom, the lecture, spooky Marcus, napping on the plane, the drink match, "that time has passed," gunfight, goddamned partner, catching up with Sallah, the entire market place sequence, showdown with Belloq and "Bad date"...quicker than two episodes of King of Queens. Said another way, if I were to guess what the midpoint of the movie were, I might guess the Map Room, but certainly not a later point in the movie. But from that point, the movie has a full hour left and has only been running 50 mins. For someone who has seen this movie many many times, I never realized the pace at which it was all going. Not that the action really slows down at all, but it just seems like fewer "things" (turning points, new characters, change in setting) take place after the Well of Souls, for obvious reasons (ie, the characters and thrust of the story have been established).

A classic adventure
As part of our preparation for the new Indiana Jones -movie, my wife and I decided to watch through the good old Indy-trilogy and get ready emotionally for the upcoming movie spectacle.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is a classic example of a great something-for-everyone -kind of movie. It has adventure, excitement, humour and even a hint of romance for the ladies. A complete movie experience. The characters are very distinct and well thought. The story is interesting and the directing work as a whole was a solid performance by Spielberg. I just wish we could get more of these kind of really enjoyable adventure movies.
This was not my personal favourite of all the Indiana Jones movies, but certainly I can say, that this is what legends are made of.
