It's easy to forget that Snow White first came out in 1937. The impressive animation takes care of that. It is a true classic and deserves its place completely.

There aren't as much action on the screen in many of the computer era animation films as there are in Snow White. With seven dwarfs and thirty animals on the screen one forgets that everything is done manually. I wasn't expecting that. It's pure Disney magic. Everything is done with a certain distinct style which just brings a smile to your face.

Even if it is a well preserved classic, time really shows. The language used in the movie is different from present. Also themes like death, black magic, cutting ones heart out or maybe just praying wouldn't be in a modern animation. The overall feeling of the movie is considerably darker than what we are used to now and can be scary to children. With Snow White cleaning and making food and dwarfs working in the mines, it tells something about the society the movie was produced. The dwarfs are always marching and with Dopey failing with that, you could link that to a more militaristic society. Generally violence and death are maybe more accepted in the movie than you would think. There were multiple references to killing and even one about demons and crushing bones.

Not much happens in the movie. Great deal of time is used to teach the viewers some general manners, like washing before supper, so it's clearly made for children. The movie tells us that children were regarded maybe in a different way before, because there were so much harsh sequences in the movie, cruel even. The transformed queen saying "Thirsty? Have a drink" to a skeleton died in the jail reaching for a cup of water sums this up pretty nice.

With moving picture being in its early states, Snow White is clearly a tremendous achievement. The usage of music is really top notch. This classic is worth a watch; it's entertaining and, watched over 70 years after the initial release date, also pretty interesting.
