Review from the comment
Where to start. My major problem with The Wailing is that a huge part of the premise of this film is how inept village police officers are in South Korea. Now, I understand the idea that sometimes small town cops are dumb. Hell, sometimes big town cops are dumb. But the magnitude of how the cops in this film fail at doing their job is too much for me to fathom. If those types of failures are something that is more likely to happen over there than it is here in the US, then forgive me for not being able to sign on.
Even when The Wailing picks up in the second and third acts and becomes more entertaining, it is ultimately hurt by the type of ending where you are left scratching your head wondering what you just saw. Some viewers may like that sort of thing and even I can get into a movie that has me pondering after, but this wasn't one of those times. I'm giving this a C grade that avoided a D due to the aforementioned entertaining moments.
