Saulnier is definitely on my to watch list. I loved Blue Ruin and think Hold the Dark looks pretty good. Green Room however carried some serious buzz with it and I must say I was a little disappointed. Its beautifully shot but the road from beginning to end hits some questionable patches which hold the piece up from being great.

I love Patrick Stewart as much as anyone else but I also was underwhelmed at his heavily hyped role as a skinhead bigwig trying to clean up after his goons create a bloody mess in front of a travelling punk rock band. Any of you guys wonder why William Hurt got so much props for his quick role in A History of Violence? Kinda the same deal with Stewart here for me. Oh well. Saulnier still knows how to fuck people up on film and there was a whole lot of that type of fun here that kept me dialed in.

A struggling punk rock group unknowingly ends up taking a gig in a Neo-Nazi compound. After their set, a horrible act is witnessed and the band finds themselves trapped fighting for their lives.

Green Room has a few moving parts that separate it as a standard thriller. In my opinion, the latter part of the film stumbles a bit, but it doesn't take away some fun and suspenseful moments. While it doesn't quite attain the great buzz that it garnered, Green Room was still enjoyable enough to keep director Jeremy Saulnier on your radar as someone to keep an eye on.
