An Excellent Drama
Eilis - pronounced Ay-Lish (Ronan) longs for a better life. Sponsored by a Catholic Priest in the US, she immigrates to the United States from Ireland. As she first tries to adapt to her new surroundings, she finds the conditions almost unbearable as she misses her loved ones that she left behind and the unfamiliarity of being alone in a whole new world. Things eventually change when she meets Tony (Cohen) and they quickly fall in love. While she finally begins to enjoy her new life, she is forced to return to Ireland where she endures heartache and a new suitor. (Gleeson)
Brooklyn is a very enjoyable film. It gives you a look at the journey of an Irish Immigrant, life and insight of New York life in the 1950's. The colors of the film are really striking and top notch in the way that they are portioned to you. It does so many things right, that there is very little to grumble about.
