James McAvoy plays a Scottish, Bi-polar, drug addicted cop who is trying to solve the hate crime murder of a Japanese man. During the process, he is also gunning for a promotion, going up against some of his co-workers. As clues come up empty in his case and his self destructive ways become more and more frequent, can he pull off solving the murder?
Filth is an interesting movie to try to pin down. I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the film. There were some absolute hysterical moments. I found myself pausing it as well on several occasions as there are tons of Scottish slang sprinkled throughout that made it fun to get in with the characters. The last 1/4 of the movie stumbles big time as it just gets sloppy. There is a nice supporting cast (Jaime Bell, Eddie Marsan, Imogen Poots and Jim Broadbent) that fill out the film and make it worth checking out.
