Review from the comment
Safe House is one of those blockbuster action movies that is a little thin on realism and heavy on style and charisma. Denzel Washington plays a rogue CIA operative who turns himself into a consulate in South Africa after being off the grid for over a decade. Ryan Reynolds is the rookie CIA safe house keeper where Washington is brought for interrogation. Things go crazy when the safe house is raided by assassins aiming to get rid of Washington. Of course, Washington and Reynolds are the only ones to escape and thus begin a film length series of events where Reynolds tries to keep Washington in custody and the assassins try to kill both of them. But what is it that Washington knows or possesses that make him such a marked man? Is he really the super villain his former colleagues paint him out to be? These are the questions viewers will mull over and the answers come in a somewhat predictable manner. The action runs at a frantic pace and up and coming director Daniel Espinosa has a decent eye for shooting a good scene. However, there are times when the thought process of characters is just baffling and the believability meter drops down into the red zone. As such, not much different from any other action film in recent memory.
