Using real life Navy Seals to play the protagonists in Act of Valor is a gamble that splits the pot. On the one hand, it adds credence to the action scenes as these are some of the most natural feeling, well shot sequences you will see any time soon. It is obvious these Seals know what they are doing . But where the film loses is in the rest of the presentation. The characters are not developed adequately and the real life soldiers deliver their lines as well as you would expect a squadron of untrained actors. Most of their dialogue is flat and boring and who knows, maybe in real life soldiers talk to each other flat and boring. But it doesn’t carry over well to the big screen. There are going to be those that feel Act Of Valor is testament to the sacrifice and dedication our troops lay down every day and to some degree, they are correct. But when you don’t care about the characters involved beyond your general feeling of compassion to those who serve their country, something ends up missing when the curtains close.

A pretty good action flick that is doomed by unfortunate wooden delivery by the Navy SEALS that headline the film. I know they aren't professionals in front of the camera, but the story that they showed in this film was pretty damn cool nonetheless. Act of Valor has legit action sequences but it's a film that you are only going to rememeber as "The one with the real Navy SEALS." Is that a bad thing? I salute them for the sacrifices they make every day, and I can appreciate that they gave it a go to bring this to John Q Public.
