Director Tarsem Singh does not have a robust number of movies in his portfolio. This year’s Mirror, Mirror, one of two rehashings of the Snow White tale to be released in 2012, will be only his fourth feature at the helm. But he has definitely already shown he has an uncanny knack at getting the most from a shot. Immortals is further proof of this. Singh uses vibrant colors to form a twisted harmony with the most grim portrayal of Greek mythology to date. Henry Cavill stars as Theseus, a peasant who is a natural warrior after being trained to fight by Zeus himself. When evil King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) comes ravaging everything in sight in a search for a bow that holds vast power, Theseus takes up arms. Backed by a motley crew and an oracle (Freida Pinto) who believes his fate holds key to that of the kingdom, Theseus must overcome the worst of odds in order to overcome. The action is brutal and captivating at the same time but there are moments that ooze with cheese that stop Immortals from being divine.
