Cowboys and Aliens features a pretty cool or pretty lame premise depending on your sense of imagination and fun. I lean on the former and found this box office disappointment to be a lot better than I thought it would be. Daniel Craig plays a pretty good tough guy as we have seen in the Bond films and he is just as good when he swaps out the tuxedo for a duster coat. Harrison Ford has his best role in awhile (if you don’t count the “I’m F—King Ben Affleck cameo”) as a tough war hero turned frontier baron who Craig’s outlaw has robbed. They play on opposite ends of the fence until Ford’s town is attacked by alien baddies flying in space ships who tear off into the night with half the town’s populace. Reluctantly, they team up and give chase along with a motley crew which includes Clancy Brown , Sam Rockwell, and Adam Beach. It has its clichés and stupid Hollywood moments while at the same time showcasing what a high end blockbuster should look and sound like. I know Tinsel Town throws around a lot of money behind bad ideas. This, in my opinion, was one of the not so bad ones.
