Review from the comment
The premise of Blackthorn is solid on paper. Sam Shepard plays Butch Cassidy in his twilight years. He has been hiding out in Columbia after faking his death some 20 years earlier. The quiet life has been peaceful enough but when a chance confrontation with a bandit on the run (Eduardo Noriega) has the potential to lead to a big score, Cassidy finds himself back in the wild life. Only its not so wild, at least from the viewer’s standpoint. Blackthorn prods along with the pace of a couple of mules which, coincidentally, Cassidy and the bandit find themselves riding for awhile. Its not that our journey with the legendary outlaw doesn’t have its moments, its just that they are few and far between and in the end, not vastly interesting.
