The 2011 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film focuses on an Iranian family who have to make a difficult decision. Should they leave their home country and improve the life of their daughter? Or should they stay and look after a parent who has Alzheimer's? This decision inevitably divides the family making things obviously difficult for all involved. A caregiver is hired to watch the Alzheimer patient, but that leads to more complications. A Separation is full of solid acting and very able direction. My only problem with the film was it seemed a little repetitive at times and probably could have benefited from some additional editing. Is it worthy of the Oscar? I'll have to see the other nominees to answer that one, but for now, A Separation is worthy of the time invested.
