Review from the comment
Several couples are enjoying themselves at a house party when the revelry is crashed by a family of bandits who used to live in the house. The bandits take the group hostage and wait for the arrival of their mother/leader, played by Rebecca De Mornay. There is also drama within the group of partygoers as one of the women has been fooling around with another’s husband and the couple that owns the house may or may not be hiding money that belongs to the robbers. Viewers are meant to find sympathy with the revelers and malice with the bandits. But I didn’t feel any empathy for the protagonists here as none of them felt authentic. Likewise with the bad guys. No matter how many vicious acts this film has the villains lay on, these sadists are about as memorable as what you ate for lunch two Thursdays ago. That’s the problem with Mother’s Day. It tries hard to shock the viewer, but really it’s just a slew of excessive violence with no character development to balance it out. There is no style to the gore here, and instead of shocking audiences director Darren Bousman succeeds at boring us.
