To say Kidnapped is brutal is like saying Avatar had good special effects. A real life horror scenario in which home invaders burst into a family’s new house on the eve of them moving in , the film does little to give the viewer any sense of comfort. The majority of it is shot in real time, leaving us to experience each excruciating minute of the family’s captivity. However, as a lot of movies shot in real time do, Kidnapped can feel drawn out at times and the progression of the story arc suffers from it. Many will find the film’s violence over the top but given its subject matter, the brutality of it all is actually quite fitting.
