First I was excited when I saw the trailer of the movie but very disappointed after seeing the movie. Visually it was mostly great but the whole editing sucked! And to me it just didn't come up as a believable story/movie. Maybe one reason was the movies length - it was too short.

Apocalypto for the Whole Family
10,000 B.C. tells a typical story about one man’s journey to rescue his people. It’s a fairy tale adventure in the midst of several different prehistoric civilizations.
10,000 B.C. is a typical Roland Emmerich direction in the sense that it brings impressive unforeseen visual effects to the screen. In my opinion this movie should definitely be seen on a big screen because the visual beauty of the film is a big part of the experience.
The movie is clearly targeted for the whole family and that might be its biggest problem. The movie didn’t evoke strong emotions in me. It felt like a Disney movie. Nothing bad can happen and everything will be ok. It wasn’t very exciting for me but probably kids are thrilled with the ride anyway. There is plenty of action and visual wonders to be seen. The journey goes through exotic sceneries such as snowy mountains, deep jungles and vast deserts filled with impressive computer generated animals. To sum up, I was happy with the visuals but longed for more excitement.

A journey through time
I went to see this movie for one reason - it was showing in Tennispalatsi 1, the biggest movie theatre in Finland. I wasn't expecting anything from the movie but it all turned out great for me.
Even though the movie starts with an era more fit to the title "10,000 B.C." it gradually evolves to something I'd like to call a "journey through time". The movie is about a mammoth hunter, D'leh, and his journey to find out about his past and ultimately to rescue the love of his life, Evolet. Even though it's sometimes predictable, the movie takes you through different ages in human history and it is done beautifully. I especially liked all the different tribes, customs and superstitions in the movie.
As a history student, I had to notice the multiple anachronisms throughout the movie. I don't want to spoil the movie, but if you take the movie and especially it's title, 10,000 B.C., too literally you could end up feeling cheated. Many viewers seem to fail to notice that the movie has certain fantasy qualities and it should be taken more as a pre-neolithic fairy tale than a serious attempt to describe the early stages of our history.
The best part in the movie for me was the insight it had to the prehistoric human mind. I loved the mysticism, the way it had nature as an important story element and the way the characters had all these different kinds of superstitions and ways to react to different situations. When you add very nice special effects to this combination, I have to say I left the theatre impressed.
The movie is enjoyable to everyone interested in the human mind. On the other hand, I guess it could be taken as a typical large budget action film which is entertaining even though predictable. The movie had some of the qualities as did the movies stardust and big fish, even though I liked neither of those. I liked 10,000 B.C. for its insight on human mind, its depiction of the raw, primal side of human beings and its usage of different languages and fresh actors.

I think this must be one of the most boring and stupid movies I've ever seen. First of all it took me quite a while to get what it was all about, and once I did I just waited for something to happen. It never did! So predictable and I cannot believe they really waisted a lot of money filming this! This is just rubbish!
