A vacuum repairman moonlights as a street musician and hopes for his big break. One day a Czech immigrant, who earns a living selling flowers, approaches him with the news that she is also an aspiring singer-songwriter. The pair decide to collaborate, and the songs that they compose reflect the story of their blossoming love.

Enchanting
I really think this movie was one of the best I've ever seen. It was filmed in a realistic way, which was great! I really liked the story of the guy and the girl plus the Irish surroundings. The music was captivating and I really felt positive after the film. In my opinion it was nice that the story was unsual, because it added left a fresh inprint to the viewer. Oh, and Dublin reminded me of the places I've been. It was so lovely to see familiar spots on the film.

Original and beautiful
It is very rare for a movie to feel so real. The streets of Dublin are unveiled with a mixture of touching human destinies and melancholic music in this oscar-winning modern day musical.
Part of the reason why the movie feels so real is that the two main actors aren't really actors - they are the songwriters themselves playing their own music. The passion really shows. The whole movie is surrounded by a certain atmosphere entangled with poverty and insight. The atmosphere is yet again enhanced by the way a lot of scenes are filmed with long takes apparently with a hand camera.
Once tells a story of two persons connected by music. It is about life and how to enjoy it even when facing difficulties. There is a lot music, the whole movie is basically narrated by it. It is all very beautiful and original. After endless stream of O.C. type of series and movies following the shallow life of the rich and the spoiled, this movie was simply very refreshing.
I love the way the movie deals with mature problems and yet still I can watch it with a smile on my face. It is by no means a tale of angst, despair or anything like that. It is a positive movie with lots of good humor and I was left touched, but inspired, at the end of the movie.
The ending may come as a surprise to some people but if you really think of it, the title "once" covers the ending pretty well.
