While undergoing heart surgery, a man experiences a phenomenon called ‘anesthetic awareness’, which leaves him awake but paralyzed throughout the operation. As various obstacles present themselves, his wife must make life-altering decisions while wrestling with her own personal drama.

Big cast – small film
Awake is a small thriller with a well-known cast and some neat twists. The movie starts of as a romantic drama and develops into a psychological thriller. That is an interesting mix of genres and it’s refreshing to see the mood of the movie changing. However, even though the movie develops into a thriller the excitement isn’t very intense. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat. The characters in leading roles go through some tricky situations but I just wasn’t as excited as I should have been. I think the movie is mediocre but could have been much better. If you are a fan of Jessica Alba or Hayden Christensen you might like it more. However, in all its smallness the film is refreshing change between big budget blockbusters. It's a humble film which keeps you guessing till the end.
