This is the story of an isolated Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year when the sun sinks below the horizon. As the last rays of light fade, the town is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires bent on an uninterrupted orgy of destruction. Only the small town's husband-and-wife Sheriff team stand between the survivors and certain destruction.

Barrow, Alaska - a small town way out there (just check that link) that experiences a month of complete darkness each year, is in my mind a pretty good setting for a horror movie. Add to that a group of vampires/undead, and I start doubting. Things that I deem impossible to occur in real life tend to have a negative effect on my perception of a movie's creepy factor.
Well, I watched this one anyway, and I must admit that I enjoyed Marlow, the lead vampire. A cold, calculating enemy I would prefer not to face. The "vampire language" also added some creepiness. Some things that made the movie less appealing to me were the vampire's unnatural capabilities and the cheesy finalé by Eben (Josh Harnett). As a horror movie, this didn't impress me. Luckily, there were a few other elements, such as some relationship drama and a portrayal of the hard working habitants of a small village where everyone knows each other.
If you are big into vampires, you have probably seen this already. If you like slaughter (and prefer an axe!), you'll find some right here. Also, if you saw I Am Legend and thought the "monsters" should have been given more screen time, 30 Days of Night just might be a movie for you.
