A beautiful reason
A truer story about finding peace hasn't been found on film before. I've watched thousands of movies in my time and I can honestly say that Peaceful Warrior is a touching and moving experience. By finding this man, Socrates, Dan Millman opens his mind to something greater than winning.
Similar to the film The Celestine Prophecy, this movie sheds light on the human condition. Buddhist philosophy resides in the knowledge that every moment is now. You must live in the present for anything to truly matter. Millman's story as presented though this film and his book make it accessible to so many people.
I think perhaps my favorite part of this film was when Socrates and Dan went hiking. He finds that everything that he was taught is true. But most importantly that the journey is what brings you happiness not the destination
A feel good movie and a teaching movie. What could be better than that?

It’s the Journey, not the Destination
Peaceful warrior tells a story about a gymnast Dan Millman (Scott Mechlowicz). Seemingly, Dan has everything. He has good grades, attention of girls, success in his sport and well, a huge ego. Dan has everything outside and some trash inside. Nick Nolte portrays an old gas station attendant who helps Dan to find his inner strength.
Throughout the movie it’s very easy to guess what is going to happen next. There are no surprises but I don’t see that as a big issue in this kind of film. Still I recommend not watching the trailer because it reveals far too much.
The definite highlight of the film is Nick Nolte who carries the movie on his shoulders. His character reminds me of Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid. He is an old enigma who seems to be always in control and aware of everything. Nick Nolte performs very well. He clearly knows what he is doing. He has the experience and it shows. His grasp of his performance is so firm that you don’t question him. He is very reassuring but unfortunately his lines are not. At times they go over the top or are too much a cliché.
There is also a girl in the movie, Amy Smart who portrays a mysterious girl who is somehow connected to Nolte’s character. Her role is small and she does it well. Peaceful warrior is a typical and inspiring movie about sports and about finding oneself. Would I watch it again? Probably, but mostly because of Nolte’s character.
