In 1933, a young woman and her father discover an Alabama plantation whose inhabitants live as if slavery had never been abolished. Feeling a sense of duty to those behind the heavy gates, she stays to liberate the people and see them through their first harvest. With four of her father's colleagues and a lawyer, she faces the daunting task of resurrecting the place known as Manderlay.

Very thought provoking
This is the second part of Lars von Trier's trilogy USA - Land of Opportunities. I saw the first part "Dogville" few years ago and was very impressed. The film was like no other I had ever seen before. Very unique concept and Manderlay was made with that same concept.
Both movies bring up issues that we probably don't really want to be aware of, so some people might feel a bit uneasy watching these films. Lars von Trier is definitely a brilliant director whose work I intend to see a lot more of!
