Don’t Meet the Fockers
Let me start by saying that I don’t like many movies that are purely comedies. However, there are some exceptions such as Meet the Parents. I thought it was really entertaining and hilarious. I had a great time watching Ben Stiller squirming through so many awkward situations. So of course I had to see the sequel as well.
The cast of Meet the Fockers is still the same and the story feels very familiar. On several levels the movie uses exactly the same recipe as the first part. Unfortunately the movie fails big time. The magic is not there anymore. The humor is gone. The movie relies heavily on distasteful toilet humor and jokes about sex. I just didn’t find it funny. During the movie I just kept recalling what happened in Meet the Parents and what made it so much fun. I guess that tells something about this movie. At times I found the movie simply boring and I remembered why I usually avoid comedies. The reason I give this movie four stars is Ben Stiller who is exactly the same guy as he was in the first part. There is just something really amusing in his character.
