"The Laramie Project" is set in and around Laramie, Wyoming, in the aftermath of the murder of 21-year-old Matthew Shepard. To create the stage version of "The Laramie Project," the eight-member New York-based Tectonic Theatre Project traveled to Laramie, Wyoming, recording hours of interviews with the town's citizens over a two-year period. The film adaptation dramatizes the troupe's visit, using the actual words from the transcripts to create a portrait of a town forced to confront itself.

Film of the Decade
A beautiful film, based on the recordings of a troop of actors, that brought the worlds attention back to the hurtful, desperate pain in the death of a young man who did nothing but love.
The film's script is taken from the transcripts that an acting troop had gathered before the trials of Aaron James Henderson and Russell Arthur Henderson. The play that was created from these interviews helped to pass Hate Crime legislation in the United States.
It is a tragic tale that is beautifully captured and retold through the voices of the town that saw it happen. No one will ever forget Matthew Shepard because of the snowball of actions that happened afterward.
