Review from the comment
If you took the general elements of the first Alien, dumbed down the story a few times, lowered the suspense factor 50%, replaced the iconic creature with a less cool one, and put the whole thing in the ocean instead of space; then you’d have something similar to Leviathan. However, this is not an indictment of Leviathan, at least not a scathing indictment. Alien is so outstanding that even a half assed rip off of it is still watchable. Of all the bad parts of Leviathan, the casting is what makes it somewhat enjoyable. These are fleshed out characters played by solid veterans. It’s interesting how far a good cast can take something when they are hitting on all cylinders.
