During the Cold War, the Soviet Union captures U.S. pilot Francis Gary Powers after shooting down his U-2 spy plane. Sentenced to 10 years in prison, Powers' only hope is New York lawyer James Donovan, recruited by a CIA operative to negotiate his release. Donovan boards a plane to Berlin, hoping to win the young man's freedom through a prisoner exchange. If all goes well, the Russians would get Rudolf Abel, the convicted spy who Donovan defended in court.
Review from the comment
You would think that the stars would align if you took a movie with Spielberg, The Coen Brothers and Tom Hanks and put it on the big screen. Bridge of Spies had so much potential, yet falls short of the awesomeness it was trying to achieve.
Bridge of Spies documents the downing of Francis Gary Powers U-2 spy plane and his exchange with American held Russian Spy, Rudolf Abel. My big problem with the film was I really felt it lacked the Cold War thrill I was expecting. Bridge of Spies was well, a little bit of a bore. Some parts had poor pacing while others lacked more attention to detail. Bridge of Spies was a little bit of a misstep for Spielberg and The Coen Brothers.
