Review from the comment
I had high hopes for Miss Bala. Executive produced by two of Mexico’s heavyweights, Diego Luna and Gael Barcia Bernal, the trailer for the film gave off the impression of an intriguing look at the ongoing drug cartel wars in Mexico. The problem with it all is that director Gerardo Naranjo’s effort does not flow well and there are many times when viewers will scratch their heads wondering what the hell is going on. We don’t hear enough about our southern neighbor’s vicious civil unrest in my opinion and a piece like Miss Bala is definitely necessary to open up further discussion on the topic. But a lack of clarity in the plot and a limping pace at times bring down the overall effect I’m sure Naranjo was looking for.
