Too many cooks in the kitchen
A very knowledgeable filmmaker that gets bogged down with his visual nods to the masters. A lot of Antonioni, Visconti, and Hitchcock influences which implies that the director is unwilling or unable to find his own style--choosing instead to pilfer from the past.
