The film often plays like the standard racial shake-up with sports as the background. Not as inspiring as Remember the Titans. Most of the racial issues come across as a bit superficial and token. Interestingly, Haskins isn't portrayed as a racial crusader, but rather a passionate basketball coach that would do anything to win within the limited resources and opportunities provided by the UTEP. The National Championship game was portrayed less as a racial issue and more as the moment where basketball coaching and style begin to evolve into the game that is played today.
